Assemble: Derby’s Making Festival

Museum of Making26 October 2024

A celebration of all things making – meet the makers and discover what you can make!

Assemble: Derby’s Making Festival is a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, which celebrates making in all its shapes and forms.

Back for 2024, Assemble brings together over 60 artists and makers from varied disciplines to share their passion and skills with you and to encourage you to have a go at making yourself. The last event in 2022 saw audiences of over 3,000 in attendance and featured more than 50 makers on-site, with demonstrations in everything from ceramics and embroidery to laser-cutting, weaving, jewellery-making, letterpress printing, metalwork, robotics, clay-modelling, automata and even a Chocolate Investigation Lab! Assemble is perfect for families and may even inspire the little ones to become makers of the future…

Meet the spectacle makers for 2024:

  • The ever popular Bigbubbleman will be creating HUGE bubbles, CLOUDS of smaller bubbles and asking you to make your own bubbles.
  • PlayLAND LIVE by John Whall is an immersive interactive installation made using video game based artwork – create your own kite and scan it in to a digital world!
  • Samantha Hudson aka ‘Sam Carnival’ is most well known for her dazzling Carnival costumes – what will you design?
  • Back by popular demand, Johnny White will be bringing his large scale kinetic art sculptures to Assemble. What will he do this time and will it involve fire? You’ll have to attend to find out!
  • Multi-disciplinary artist Tim Neath is inviting families to take part in a giant one-day challenge to recreate the city of Derby out of recycled cardboard.
  • Plus LOTS more makers ready to meet you…

Assemble is set in the surroundings of the Museum of Making, a UNESCO World Heritage widely regarded as the site of the world’s first modern factory.
